Mary Jo A. Majerus, B.A., C.M.T.                                                                                              Director

              Mary Jo received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 1975.  While teaching in Mason City, Iowa she discovered that she had an aptitude for massage.  She moved to Philadelphia and graduated from The Massage Institute in Glendolyn, PA in 1979.   After receiving her diploma she opened a private practice in her home in Philadelphia, PA.  Over the past twenty years she has had training in: Therapeutic Touch, from the Therapeutic Touch Center in Philadelphia, PA.;  Trager Technique, from The Trager Institute in Princeton, NJ.; and Reflexology from the Minneapolis School of Massage in Minneapolis, MN.  In 1987 she opened Healing Touch Therapeutic Massage Center in Rochester, MN.

 

Sophie Fuller, C.M.T.                                                                   Administrative Assistant / Instructor

              Sophie graduated from Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy in 2001.  Since her graduation she has worked fulltime as a Massage Therapist at Healing Touch Spa & Salon and later at Sister Rosalind Gefre’s School and Clinic of Massage.  She was also the School Liaison at Sister Rosalind Gefre’s School before returning to her roots at Healing Touch.  Sophie specializes in Pregnancy and Infant Massage, Myofascial Release, Spa Therapies, Deep Tissue Massage, Chair Massage and is currently pursuing studies in massage for cancer patients.

 

Mary Jo Fibieger, B.A., C.P.A.                                                               Financial Aid Officer/Advisor

              Jo graduated from the Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN in 1982 with a B.A. in Accounting.  In 1991 she became a C.P.A.   She worked in a private accounting firm until 1993 when she opened her own business.  She assists students in obtaining the SELF Loan through the state of Minnesota and in arranging payment plans for tuition fees.  

 

Mary Jo Battey, C.M.T.                                                                                                             Instructor

              Mary Jo graduated from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy in 1983 with 1250 hours.  Since then she has practiced massage in Boulder, Colorado and Rochester, Minnesota.  Mary Jo has taught Massage Therapy in various schools in Colorado and Minnesota.  She co-lead workshops in Colorado, Texas, and Mexico.  In 1989 she helped open a Massage School in Puerto Rico.  Mary Jo has continued to pursue continuing education in the field including: Myofascial Release, Pregnancy Massage, Infant Massage, Reflexology, and many others.

 

 

 Steve Cole, B.A., M.A.                                                                                                              Instructor

              Steve received his first Masters in Natural Science from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, S.D. in 1990. He taught Biology at Western Iowa Technical College in Sioux City, IA while obtaining his second masters in Biology in 1991, also from the University of South Dakota.  From 1991 to 1999 he taught classes in anatomy, physiology and nutrition at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA.  In 1999 he moved to MN and in addition to teaching at HTSMT he also teaches anatomy, physiology and nutrition at Rochester Community and Technical College.

 

 

 

Judy Kottschade, C.M.T.                                                                                                           Instructor

              Judy graduated from Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy in the Fall of 2004.  She has been practicing massage in Spring Valley, MN since 2004.  She also was an Emergency Medical Technician  2001-2005.  Judy has 10 years of aquatics, taught swimming lessons, and life guarding.  She has been teaching our anatomy and clay classes since 2005.

 

Annie McKay, C.M.T                                                                                                                 Instructor

             Annie graduated from Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy in February 2004.  She teaches our elective classes of Aromatherapy Facials, Body Wraps and Hot Stone Massage.  She is a full time C.M.T. and manager at Healing Touch Spa & Salon.  She specializes in the Swedish/Esalen Massage, Trigger Point Massage and spa therapies.

 

Marcia Meredith, RN, BSN, CNP                                                                                              Instructor

              Marcia graduated with a Masters in nursing in 2002 from the College of St. Catherine, St Paul, MN and is also a graduate of the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM. She is in private practice in the Twin Cities area and teaches Ayurvedic nutrition and cooking classes.  She also is available for Ayurvedic consultations (including dietary and lifestyle) at Healing Touch Spa & Salon.

 

Gary Michaels, C.M.T.                                                                                                               Instructor

              Gary graduated from Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy in 2002.  Due to a serious shoulder injury he decided to switch careers from construction and go into massage.  His experience with his own injury has enabled him to empathize and be more effective with clients in chronic and acute pain.  His specialty is Deep Tissue Massage and has 80 hours of Myofascial Release training with Dr. Barnes.  Gary teaches our Massage Techniques I class as well as offers bodywork at his own business in La Crosse, WI.

 

Quiyang Zhang, Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, C.M.T.                                          Instructor

              Yang is a graduate of Chang Chun Chinese Medicine College in Jilin, China.  He moved to the U.S. in 2004 and became a C.M.T.  Traditional Chinese Medicine originated in China 2500 years ago as a system of healthcare which promotes and restores health by assessing and treating imbalance in the Qi, or natural vital energy of the body.  Yang offers TCM as well as Therapeutic Massage at Healing Touch Spa & Salon. He teaches the TCM Intro workshop and elective at Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy.
