History
Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy (HTSMT) was founded in 1999 and is licensed by the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office of the State of Minnesota. Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy is a private, professional school devoted to the study of massage and related health education. HTSMT has a commitment to holistic education, and the training is designed to integrate body, mind, heart, and spirit. A key feature of our educational process is that students are asked to look at the emotional, spiritual, and intellectual aspects of massage and incorporate those aspects with their own beliefs, emotions, and behaviors during the course of their exploration of the body and the techniques of massage.

Philosophy
Central to our philosophy is the belief that touch is a powerful form of communication with the potential for facilitating and encouraging healing. Our extensive and detailed study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and massage techniques is augmented by time for students to share their experiences as both givers and receivers of touch. This dialogue helps students clarify their own beliefs about touching and encourages the development of the skill of intuition, or the "inner healer."

Teaching Hands-On Technique Skills

  • All techniques classes will be no larger than 9 students - the foundation of an excellent therapeutic massage program necessitates small class size for the techniques classes,
  • Each massage stroke will be taught in five ways in order to learn therapeutic massage techniques effectively:
    • First the student must see the stroke.
    • Second the student must hear the directions for performing the stroke.
    • Third, the student must feel the stroke performed correctly – and receive that hands-on experience from the instructor.
    • Fourth, the student must practice the stroke on the instructor so as to receive specific feedback about how to do the stroke.
    • Finally, the student must practice the stroke on fellow students and the public to perfect the technique.

Commitment
Healing Touch School of Massage Therapy holds high standards for our faculty and curriculum as well as our students. Our program is based on integrity and excellence in education and we are committed to being a leader in the field of bodywork education.
