Understanding human musculoskeletal anatomy is crucial in providing high quality muscle therapy to clients. This course will teach students an understanding of, muscles, joints, and connective tissue. No prerequisite
Anatomy II 30 Hours
Students will then build on the basics of Anatomy I learning the origin, insertion, and actions for each muscle. Prerequisite: Anatomy I
Clay Anatomy 10 Hours
In this class students will build the muscles onto a small mannekin of the human skeleton as well as use the full-sized human skeleton model to re-create muscle movement.
Prerequisite: Anatomy I
Physiology 40 Hours
This course is an introduction to human physiology. Material covers how the human body functions and relates to the anatomy of the body. No prerequisite
Massage Techniques I 95 Hours
MT I is the foundation upon which Massage Technique II will be built. MT I will focus on Swedish and Esalen Massage with the goal of perfecting those techniques.. Emphasis on using proper body mechanics will be included as part of this class as well as discussions about how massage can be used as a tool for meditation and deep relaxation. In addition, the instructor will discuss how massage not only affects our bodies, but our minds, souls, and emotions No prerequisite
Massage Technique II 24 Hours
MT II fine tunes the skills learned in Massage techniques I and encourages the students to be creative with the skills they learned in MT I. The emphasis will be on supporting the students’ exploration and creation of their own personal style – to work ”outside the box”.
Prerequisite: Massage Techniques I
Massage Practicum 16 Hours
This class will be scheduled in conjunction with MT I and MT II to enable our students to consistently and regularly practice the skills they have learned.

Body Mechanics 3 Hours
Body Mechanics will teach the students how to use their body correctly when doing bodywork – to learn how to use their body as a tool. This will make it possible for our students to pursue their careers fulltime without damaging or hurting their bodies.

Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice 12 Hours
This class will primarily be a discussion class. Subjects will range from the history of massage to choosing a massage table, to health, hygiene and sanitation. Ethics and boundaries will be an important part of this class as well. No prerequisite
Adaptive Massage 14 Hours
Massage Therapists often give bodywork to special population, such as pregnant women, frail clients, and clients with chronic illnesses. Our students will learn the special needs of these groups and effective techniques to use. No prerequisite
Adaptive Massage Practicum 14 Hours
Using the skills learned in Adaptive massage class the students will work out in the community with these special populations Prerequisite: Adaptive Massage
Business I 24 Hours
Students will explore their personal values and goals in relation to their professional goals; look at the pros and cons of being an employee vs. being self-employed or a sub-contractor; discuss business ethics; explore bookkeeping and financial issues and create marketing materials.

Chair Massage 8 Hours
Students will learn the proper way to give a seated massage with an emphasis on the skills needed to give a marketing style chair massage. This class includes “practicum time”

Self Care 7 Hours
Students will learn how to take care of themselves so they can be successful in this profession for a lifetime career if they so choose. Includes proper use of massage tools, stretching, yoga poses, Chi Qoung, meditation, diet, breathing exercise and more. No prerequisite
Charting 3 Hours
It is critical for a Massage Therapist to know how to correctly chart her/his client’s progress. This class will explore and explain different options of charting. No prerequisite
Student Clinical 160 Hours
Students are required to complete 146 hands-on hours of Clinical at facilities arranged by HTSMT. The student Clinical is an unpaid program that will give students exposure to a professional environment and give them the opportunity to utilize the massage skills they learn throughout the instructional portion of the program. The Clinical hours provide the student with valuable experience to enhance their skills as a Certified Massage Therapist. Students will be able to fulfill the required Clinical hours in a number of ways, but the requirements and policies for successful completion of the Clinical are quite specific and strictly enforced. Copies of the “Clinical Requirements and Policies” are available upon request at the school office.
